A Few of My Favourite Things:
Favourite sport to play: I love to play most sports, but it really comes down to baseball and golf. I would have to give the edge to golf – it’s a great way to spend an afternoon, and it’s something I can do with both my family and my friends.
Favourite way to spend a Saturday afternoon: It’s a tie between biking and barbecuing. Biking is great and there are so many beautiful trails that allow you to exercise while enjoying the scenery. And barbecuing is another great way to spend time with my awesome friends and family.
“My main goal is to be the best physiotherapist I can be for my patients. I believe you have one chance to make an impression on people, and one life to do it in. As a physiotherapist, I have the opportunity to be a healer – to heal people with my hands. This is how I can use my talents to positively contribute to society.” – Jonathan D’Sylva
As an athlete, I spent a lot of time working with physiotherapists and I was immediately drawn to the profession; I liked the concept of treating someone’s pain without having to prescribe medications for it.
What drove me to pursue a career in physiotherapy over any other medical profession is the one-on-one interaction you get between patient and practitioner. I enjoy meeting different people and forming relationships with my patients. I like learning about people. As much as I enjoy educating my patients, I find they teach me too – I am constantly learning and growing through my patient interactions.
I believe teamwork between practitioner and patient is essential in achieving the best results in physiotherapy. My philosophy is to work with my patients, rather than simply instructing them on what to do. My number one focus is to learn about my patients and what works for them. From there, I create a program that not only meets their rehabilitative needs, but is actually realistic and will be something they can complete.
I love the integrated approach at Align Health Centre. It’s a unique opportunity to work with different practitioners, and I find I am constantly learning from them.
