A Few of My Favourite Things:
Favourite Pastime: As a husband and father of three, I love to spend time being active with my wife and kids – our favourite activities include biking and hiking.

Favourite Athletic Achievement: Completing the Spartan Race in 2012. It was 25km of torture.

“My background as an athlete gives me a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by my patients who seek massage therapy to help combat sports-related injuries, or who are simply looking to stay in the best shape for game season.” – Ian Tomlinson

Building a career as a registered massage therapist allows me to pursue two lifelong passions of mine: I am forever learning about the human body, and every day I have the opportunity to help other people better themselves.

Growing up, I played a lot of hockey, basketball and baseball.

As a result, I was no stranger to injury, and I quickly discovered how effective massage therapy could be in getting me back to the sports I loved.

My background as an athlete gives me a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by my patients who seek massage therapy to help combat sports-related injuries, or who are simply looking to stay in the best shape for game season. This familiarity provides a unique perspective, allowing me to experience the benefits of massage from both the patient and the practitioner perspective.

When it came time to choose a path for my post-secondary education, I decided to pursue my undergrad in Kinesiology. I graduated in 2010, and have been practicing massage therapy since 2013.

I was inspired to join the team at Align Health Centre because of the clinic’s fantastic reputation and multi-disciplinary environment.

Here, I get to thrive while working in a powerful team atmosphere where practitioners collaborate to provide the best treatment possible to each Align patient. In my practice, I treat athletes, people with physically demanding jobs, and those suffering from range of motion issues, as well as low back, hip, shoulder and neck pain.

In addition to treating patients here at Align, I also work as a full-time firefighter in Whitby. Similar to working as an RMT, being a firefighter allows me to help others and contribute to my community, while also presenting the opportunity to work as part of a team and challenge myself through the physical demands of the job.
