The days are getting longer, it’s getting warmer with each passing week, and the first signs of flowers and trees waking up from their winter slumber are everywhere. Spring is in the air to say the least.
As is tradition, spring is a great time to take an afternoon to tidy up your home and clear out any clutter you’ve accumulated throughout the year. But I also urge you to use this change of season as an opportunity to spring-clean your entire life and realign your mind, body and soul.
Spring is a time of a rebirth and rejuvenation. Embrace it and get started on your spring cleanse with these four tips:
1. Take 10 minutes to breathe: We all live busy lives and it’s easy to forget that sometimes we need to slow down and give ourselves a timeout. The next time you’re feeling stressed, find a quiet place where you can take 10 minutes to close your eyes, take some deep breaths, and reflect on the things you’re grateful for you in your life. Or even better, make this a daily ritual and part of your morning routine.
2. Get outside and get active: After a long winter cooped up inside, spring is an excellent time to get out and reconnect with nature. Not only will your body be thankful for the extra dose of vitamin D and fresh air, but the warmer weather is great motivation to get more active and spend time outdoors. Enjoy a long walk, go for a jog, or take up a new outdoor activity with friends or family.
3. Eat healthier: It’s easy to put on a few extra pounds over the winter months, but that doesn’t mean you have to keep them on! When you’re snacking this spring try swapping junk food for healthier alternatives. If you’re craving potato chips why not try something healthier like banana or kale chips? Carrot and celery sticks are another good snack if you’re craving something to crunch on. If you’ve got a sweet tooth enjoy nature’s candy – berries, cherries, apples, oranges or whatever fruits you enjoy – instead of reaching for that licorice or chocolate. 4.
